The importance of Grandmaster Flash & the Furious Five is not in doubt. GRANDMASTER FLASH & THE FURIOUS FIVE

THE MESSAGE: EXPANDED EDITION

Release date: 20TH September 2010

Label: Sanctuary/Universal Music Catalogue

Format: 1CD & Digital download

Catalogue: 2741869

A Brand New Expanded Edition of the Groundbreaking Classic Album That Certified Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five As The Kings of Hip-Hop

When it first dropped in late 1982, The Message became the greatest rap album of the old school years. It was also the first radically conscious rap album of its era, exploring the various inequalities of 1980s America.

No rap act at that point had channelled the mood and struggles of the streets onto record. Grandmaster Flash & the Furious Five became the first to step up to the plate and address the reality of inner city life in New York's boroughs. Tracks such as the renowned ‘The Message’ would cement their place as one of the most influential hip-hop groups in history.

This ‘Expanded Edition’ of their classic album now includes additional bonus tracks such as ‘The Message II’, ‘New York New York’, the instrumental of the 'Message’ plus ‘The Adventure Of Grandmaster Himself’, a cut-up of various classic breaks that only appeared 20 years after recording. Also included are new extended sleeve notes.

This expanded edition of ‘The Message’ demonstrates the brilliance of Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five and how their powerful rap cuts still stand the test of time nearly 30 years after release. Hip-Hop would not be the dominant force it is today without this seminal album.

TRACK LISTING

1. She's Fresh
2. It's Nasty
3. Scorpio
4. It's A Shame (Mt. Airy Groove)
5. Dreamin'
6. You Are
7. The Message

11. Don't Put Me Down - Finishing Touch - 9:09
12. Whatcha Gonna Do - Heaven 'n Hell - 9:49

Well, it's a historic occasion and when we realised we were coming up to our 100th release we knew it better be a work of art......so here it is folks......
Already one of the most anticipated releases of the year by the Dance Music community, "Philly Re-Grooved: The Tom Moulton Remixes" puts the world's greatest and most respected veteran mixer of all time with one of the first labels which catered to the emerging Disco sound of the early 1970's - Philly Groove. Philly Groove exploded onto the world stage with a huge brace of hits for the Delfonics then subsequently followed through with the international smash "Armed & Extremely Dangerous" by
First Choice which well and truly ushered the Disco age into worldwide consciousness. Philly Groove followed through with a slew of beautifully recorded gems from the likes of Tapestry, Nat Turner (featuring Major Harris), Finishing Touch and further Disco smashes from First Choice, The Delfonics and the Philly Groove Orchestra (essentially M.F.S.B. under another name).
However most of Philly Groove's prestigious output was released before the 12 inch format was invented (co-incidentally by Tom Moulton himself). When the opportunity arose for Tom Moulton to go back to the original 2" masters of these early Disco gems and remix them he jumped at the opportunity. So finally we are treated to the full glory of the Philly Groove catalogue remixed for the full 12" versions by the master himself. THAT'S why it's our 100th release!
Also includes the hard-to-find "We're On The Right Track" by Ultra High Frequency and two fantastic bonus tracks which are blowing up on UK Radio and Club's right now - the wonderful "Don't Put Me Down" by Finishing Touch and the utterly sensational 9.46 "Whatcha Gonna Do" - Heaven n' Hell which will be one of the soundtracks to Summer 2010!
There will be much interest in Philly remix projects through this Summer following Dimitri From Paris's "Get Down With Philly Sound" album out in May and Tom Moulton's "Philly Re-Grooved" out in June so make sure you're in the loop!

Label: Universal Music Soundtracks

Physical 2CD Set – 00600753284438 Digital Set – 00600753301258

ITunes Exclusive with Directory Commentary – UPC TBC

SoulBoy is the stunning brand new soundtrack to the first ever film to be set to a Northern Soul background.

It's 1974 in Stoke on Trent. Britain is plagued by power cuts, strikes and boot-boy aggro on the football terraces. Joe McCain (Martin Compston) and best friend Russ Mountjoy (Alfie Allen) are bored of their mundane lives going nowhere. Enter hair-dresser Jane (Nicola Burley), blonde, brassy, and moving to a different beat and sound. She introduces Joe to the concept of all-nighters at the infamous Wigan Casino and an exotic underworld of drugs, sex and soul music. Joe becomes immersed in the Northern soul scene feeling as though he has finally found somewhere he belongs. Swept along on this tide of pulsating dance and lust, Joe becomes embroiled in the darker side of soul scene that will put his friendship to the test and force him to choose between his heart and his soul.

This fantastic film, set to be the British film of the summer, is supported by a brilliant soundtrack crammed with 50 red-hot Northern Soul anthems that screams ‘Get Up And Dance’. Featured on this 2 disc set is an exclusive Northern Soul cover of ‘On A Magic Carpet Ride’ recorded by Gabriella Cilmi, which also appears in the film.

Also included are all the superb tunes that pulsate throughout the film from the likes of Al Wilson, Gloria Jones, Dean Parrish, Yvonne Baker, The Detroit Spinners plus many more. The great music doesn’t stop there, with a bonus mix tape disc compiled by the lead character Joe McCain, with more powerful cuts that celebrate this unique scene.

SoulBoy authentically captures the magic of the Wigan Casino and Northern Soul era, while the soundtrack gives a wonderful insight into the glorious music that shaped the world’s first underground music scene. Soulconnexion Hot 40's Hottest New Releases Empty A Cellarful Of Motown Vol.4

Post  Dave Tue Aug 24, 2010 7:54 am

Soulconnexion Hot 40's Hottest New Releases Motowm10

A CELLARFUL OF MOTOWN VOL. 4

Various Artists

RELEASE DATE: OCTOBER 11th 2010

Label: Universal / Motown

2CD Set Physical & Digital UPC 00042288240099

The Superb 4th Instalment of The Acclaimed Lost & Found Series, featuring 50 Stunning Never-Heard-Before Motown Treasures from the likes of Stevie Wonder, Brenda Holloway, Marvin Gaye, Edwin Starr, The Spinners Plus Many More. Also included on this 2 disc set is a beautifully designed 20 page booklet with detailed sleeve notes and annotations by Motown connoisseur Paul Nixon, plus a collection of stunning artist photos from the Motown photo archive.

With no sign of the goodies drying up in the Motown Vaults, it’s with great pleasure, after exhaustive research, that we bring you the fourth volume in this stunning series that can proudly boast the release in total of over 200 vaulted examples of Detroit’s finest sounds that astonishingly never made it past the recording studio.

Featured are the usual ‘out on the floor’ thumping Motown scorchers plus newly discovered ballads and sophisticates. Some of the greatest discoveries on this collection include the flawless unheard ‘Why Don’t You Come Home’ recorded in 1968 by the child prodigy Stevie Wonder. Also featured is an absolute stomper ‘Born To Be Bad’ from UK Favourite Edwin Starr, and possibly the most special discovery of all, an undeniable classic ‘Three Times Loser’ recorded in 1963 by the unimpeachable Marvin Gaye, proving that despite the declaration that just about every vaulted Gaye track has been discovered, the Cellarful of Motown series continues to unlock a piece of music history.

Both Brenda Holloway and Barbara McNair close a CD each with examples of how artists explored their repertoire, while there are more than enough core Motown floor fillers to excite and seduce the staunchest Motown fan.

This sensational 2 disc set proves that the Quality Control team at Motown potentially missed many great recordings that could have become huge hits. The mystery remains as to how these fantastic gems were consigned to the Motown Vaults, but their loss is your gain some 40 years down the road! We defy you to keep your feet still as you listen to these newly restored treasures that have been lovingly rescued thanks to the grace of modern technology.

Soulconnexion Hot 40's Hottest New Releases Empty Marilyn Ashford-Brown Mix 2010

Post  Dave Sun Sep 05, 2010 5:59 am

1. I've Got A Feeling - (Burley Remix) 5:55
2. You'll Never Find (Another Love Like Me) 7:25
3. Respect Me 7:01
4. You Know How To Love Me 6:03
5. Can You Handle It 5:46

The international success of the Just Doing Me, cd. inspired this much anticipated Mix 2010 Limited Editon which is the result of strong demand for LP's by DJ's abroad who still prefer vinyl over CD's. We heard their plea and decided to also manufacture Vinyl's. This is A (5) song compilation of dance tunes which includes the "Burley Club-Remix" of Ashford Brown's hit, I've Got A Feeling from the Just Doing Me, CD. The Washington Post gave it a "Rave" review. I've Got A Feeling was very successful abroad, garnering and establishing Ashford-Brown as an international success. Her show stopping, performance rendition of the legendary, Phyllis Hyman's You Know How To Love Me says it all....an outstanding performance full of energy and originality....Phyllis would be Proud! Also, included, the remake of the late, Sharon Redd's Can You Handle It, Few people are aware that Marilyn Ashford Brown is a former member of the female trio, Sasss for which whom, Can You Handle It was originally written for. However, the deal fell through and their lead singer's voice was removed and replaced by that of Sharon Redd's. Sasss would later go on to work with Producer, Dexter Wansel, recording I Didn't Mean It At All, City Life and Baby Talk all of which were huge in the U. K. Both you Know How To Love Me and Can You Handle It are from Ashford-Brown's forthcoming CD Release. Did we mention that both tracks were produced by the legendary, Al Johnson!

With the release of the Just Doing Me, cd, Marilyn Ashford-Brown has traveled and performed in such places as Amsterdam, Netherlands and the 2010 Baltic Soul Weekender in Hamburg, Germany. She will also perform during the 2010 Med-Soul Weekender in Lloret De Mar, Cost Brava, Spain September 11th thru 18th. This has been an unbelievable journey and year says Ashford-Brown. This is a Great Compilation of Dance Tunes. Enjoy!

Soulconnexion Hot 40's Hottest New Releases Empty Jumpin - Harmless 15th Anniversary Crystal Edition

Post  Dave Sun Oct 10, 2010 7:03 am

24 Original Full Length Classics From The Disco Underground

Following on from Pulp Fusion and continuing our run of Harmless definitive 15th Anniversary releases, we're pleased to announce the forthcoming release of Jumpin' The 15th Anniversary Crystal Edition the 2nd of 5 in the 15th Anniversary series.

The first volume of Jumpin' was released in 1997 with volume 2 released a year later in 1998 with both albums establishing themselves as key albums in the rapidly growing Retro Disco scene at the time. Since then, there have been countless other albums which have covered similar areas. But Jumpin' was there from the beginning so we figured it was time for a third volume to co-incide with our 15th Anniversary and what a volume it is too! Since so much material has been plundered and released over the last 12 years we needed to put a fresh slant on the 3rd volume so we decided to cover the period from 1976-86 which saw traditional Disco evolve and grow with the times until it mutated into 80's Electronic Dance Music an area which has previously been under-served by compilations until now. We have been delighted to track down a whole clutch of in-demand titles which have been long unavailable on CD in the UK including some gems from the Vanguard, Philly World and Total Experience catalogues alongside some perennial collectables from such sterling labels as Salsoul, Red Greg, Gold Mind, Philadelphia International and West End. Needless to say we will be using only the full 12" or original album versions.

Jumpin' The 15th Anniversary Crystal Edition will be released on the 25th October 2010 and will be backed the usual level of Harmless marketing, promotion and PR which has resulted in 5 back to back Top 100 albums over the last 4 months! This album totally takes you down memory lane, enjoy the ride!
